Well, The Sound of Music ended yesterday. It's good to have my evenings back, but I'm still sad it's over.
It was a bit hectic -- since Ael and I were in both casts, we had to show up to twice as many rehearsals as Erin did. It was fun, though, and having the extra rehearsals gave me time to get my part down pretty well. It went off nicely on Friday night, when my parents came up from Rhode Island to see us. I'm still trying to figure out if I should be flattered or insulted that they had no idea I could sing and act like that. :-)
Saturday night could have been better, though. During "How Will Love Survive", I lost my grip on Elsa's hand while spinning her in for the dip, and had to catch her a bit more quickly than usual. In Act II, though, I pretty much fell apart. I messed up the kids' names when I entered with the Kaltzberg Festival program -- I had to call 5 of them in a fairly-random order, and it was much more random than usual. Then when I was "reading" their names out of the program, I messed them up, forgetting Gretl at the end, and then having to tack it on so that she could deliver her "why am I always last" line. :-( To cap it all off, I forgot to hand off the program so that Brigitta could give it to the Captain, so I had to think fast and make sure I was somewhere where he could see it and ask for it. Fortunately, he was also thinking fast enough, so I don't think anyone who didn't know the play would have caught it (unless they were watching the deer-in-the-headlights look on my face). After all that, forgetting "Captain von Trapp has just returned from his honeymoon, sir" was the icing on the cake. *sigh*
I had two quick-changes into evening dress: it was hopelessly slow until Donna pointed out that I could wear my tux shirt and clip the microphone to the tie so that the studs wouldn't show, and then that my tux pants were so loose that I could fit them on over my slacks, obviating the need to move the mic between pants.
Ael's role growed a bit since the original casting: she was originally just one of the "children at the party", but she and a friend were "promoted" to postulants/students at the abbey, getting a crossover and a place on stage for the finale.
Erin did fine as Marta. "Uncle Max" rarely interacted with her, so I don't really know in detail how she was. Brigitta and Gretl, though, I had lines with, so I had a better idea of what was going on with them.
I have some pictures posted over at Flickr -- most of them are friends-locked, since the von Trapp children's parents might not want their kids' faces all over the net. I also recorded a late rehearsal, but I'm not going to post it publicly. If you want to hear the songs I did, I can send them directly.
